Westosha Central takes down Livonia, Michigan and Chippewa Falls

Westosha Central swept a double header to improve to 3-2 on the season.  In the first game the Falcons came back twice to defeat Livonia Ladywood (MI) 10-9 in 11 innings.  Alyssa Hrncar earned the win in relief of Olivia Klean pitching the final 5 innings and striking out 10.  With Ladywood leading 4-1 in the 4th the Falcons score 4 runs to take a 5-4 lead.  The big blow was a 3-run triple by Kira Mickelson.  The Falcons held the lead until the 7th inning when the Pacers plated 5 to take a 9-7 lead.  The Falcons were able to put on a runner and with 2 out, Sophomore Carrie Weis shot a ball to center field for her first HR and and a 9-9 tie.  “We talk all the time about every player on the team contributing.  Carrie has worked so hard it was great to see her get this type of success”  (co head coach Tom Lampe)  The game continued on until the 11th.  Elaine Andersen led off by reaching base on an error.  With 2 out again Weis came to the plate and delivered a two out single which scored Andresen with the deciding run.  “Carrie had a big game for us.  That’s what great teams do.  Get it from every player in their line up.”  (co head coach Tom Lampe)  In the victory, Kayla Konwent hit her 4th home run of the season and Kira Mickelson plate five Falcons.  “This was a team effort.  It was important to start out the day with a win.”  (co head coach Tom Lampe). 

 In the second game the Falcons  scored early and held on to defeat Chippewa Falls 6-3.  Alyssay Hrncar pitched the entire game, striking out 10 to earn the victory.  “What can I say about Alyssa except that she is a fighter.  She threw close to 200 pitches today and battled the whole way” (co head coach Tom Lampe)  The Falcons erased an early deficit by scoring Jenna Kontaxis on an illegal pitch by S. Crank.  In the 3rd inning the Falcons really went to work.  They scored four runs on RBI hits by Elaine Andersen and Heidi Holmstrom.  Andersen added an RBI in the 4th and the Falcons never looked back.  “These were big games for us after last week.  Both these team were quality opponents.  We think the team responded in the manner we were hoping for.  It was really nice to get contributions from everyone today.  If we can keep this up, we will be difficult for any team to deal with.” (co head coach Tom Lampe)  The Falcons will start this week by facing Badger before a show down with top ranked Union Grove on Thursday.
