Breuch mails second homer in as many games, Sandstrom gets first one

Amber Bruech hit her second home run in as many games as Poynette too an much improved Lodi team down today in Poynette. The final was 10-0 and ended in the bottom of the sixth on the 10-run rule.

Breuch hit her dinger over the leftcenter field fence in the first inning with a runner aboard and two down. She later drew a pair of walks and scored one run while giving up her running spot to a DP/Flex change. Jenna Sandstrom returned to the Puma lineup after missing most of last season with a broken hand and did in style with a bullet over the fence in dead leftfield just inside the foul pole.

Poynette added four runs to  their 2-0 lead in the third inning as Shelby Wheeler singled, stole second and scored on a towering double that hit the base of the fence in leftcenter. Treinen then scored on Sandstrom's rocket.

Pitcher Jordan Blochwitz laced a double to leftcenter in the fourth to open that inning, went to third on an infield single off the bat of Jordyn Mackey and scored when Mya Knuteson flew out deep to centerfield.

In the bottom of the sixth the Pumas got Mackey aboard safely for the third time in four trips when she lined a single between the first and second sackers and quickly swiped second base. Shelby Wheeler, not to be outdone by Mackey laced her third single of the day that sent Mackey racing home but she herself was retired when she tried to take second on a throw to the plate that was cutoff nicely by the Blue Devils. Breuch then walked  and went to second on a single by catcher Emily Cibulka and a free pass to Treinen loaded the bricks for pinch hitter Jordi Horne who blooped a tough one between first and second that handcuffed the Blue Devil second sacker, scoring the game-ender.

Blochwitz was the winning pitcher allowing just two hits including a double by Bridget Nolden, walked just one and fanned 8 in six innings of work. The losing pitcher was Madison Waterstradt who got relief help from Hailey Hellenbrand. The Pumas drew just two walks, both by Breuch and struck out just one time.

Poynette moved to 2-0 on the season. Both wins are conference notches.
