The Chequamegon High School softball team opened its 2017 season on Friday, April 7, with an 8-4 loss to visiting Tomahawk at the Park Falls Athletic Complex.
The Screaming Eagles fell behind 5-0 after two innings and battled back to 5-3 and 6-4 before giving up a pair of runs in the seventh.
Mackenzie Dane had three of Chequamegon's eight hits. Dane and Korrie Herbst had RBI singles and Herbst took a would-be Tomahawk run off the board with a strike from center field to home for an double play.
