Rice Lake, Poynette, Turner,Chippewa Falls, Lakeside Lutheran all win

Rice Lake lake traveled as close to the shores of Lake Superior as you can get without being  in the lake today when they played Northwestern in Maple.  The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth when Northwestern plated a pair of runs.

Rice Lake countered in the top of the sixth with six runs including a huge three-run shot by catcher Sam Soley. They added three more after that and then got another in the top of the seventh.  The winning pitcher was Johanna Hrdlicka. The winners collected 11 hits in the game.

Holly Brickson tossed a four-hit shutout at Monona Grove and fanned 11 Silver Eagles. After having pitched less than a handful of games her junior year, Brickson has jumped on the scene this season with double digits in four games for the Vikings.

BELOIT — The Beloit Turner Trojans stayed undefeated by defeating Evansville in a wild 18-16 affair Monday at Turner.  Trinity Fry struck the game’s biggest blow, a grand slam in Turner’s seven-run sixth-inning that began with Beloit trailing 13-11.  Though Fry’s hit gave Turner the edge, the drama was far from over.  Evanvsille pushed across three runs in the seventh to close the gap to 18-16 before seeing their rally, and the game, end when it was ruled an Evansvile player left early from second base on a tag-up play. Kailyn Packard saw her most extensive action of the season for Turner on the mound and earned the win. Packard struck out six and walked six as she continues to work her way through an injury. Fry ended the game 3-for-4, while Olivia Mikkelson also had three hits. Packard went 3-for-5, as did Gabbi Gaziano.  The Trojans (3-0) have averaged 17.3 runs in their three games.

The sisters Bredeson, sophomore Mattie and senior Allie held Luther Prep to four hits today in a 19-1 win for Poynette at Diamond of Championship in Poynette. The Pumas scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning as they saw Meagan Brookins lead off with a free pass, Mya Knuteson single and send Brookins to third. The latter scored on Haley Radewan’s double off the fence in centerfield. Radewan then scored on a double off the fence just to the left of Radewan’s off the bat of Brooke Dredske. She then scored on a double off the fence by senior catcher Riley Barnharst. Poynette added seven more in the second when Radewan sent shot deep over the fence in dead center and Dredske followed with her second double. Rachel Renz had a bases loaded, two run single later in that inning. In the third the Pumas scored four more . Leading hitters for Poynette were Mya Knutson at 2x3, Radewan at 3x3 with a double and a home run, Dredske at 3x3 with a pair of doubles, Falstad at 2x2, Neabling with a 2x2 game and Renz at 3x3.

Lakeside Lutheran bounced on Lake Mills for eight runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back in a 19-3 win in Lake Mills. The Warriors added seven more runs in the second to “salt the game away.” The winners collected 20 hits with Areille Stai going 3x3, Hannah Hoffman went 3x4 while Becca Doering, Ashley Kohls, Hollie Doyle, Kaity Bikrholz and Brett Burger all had two hits. Birkholz and Kelsey Birschbach both doubled while Stai homered. Lake Mills collected eight hits off Brett Burger and Hollie Doyle but it was well short of what they would have needed to overcome 20 hits, Jessica Clift had two hits for Lake Mills as did Breanna Jessie and  Hailey Topel.

Mount Horeb nipped Waunakee in Badger North action and DeForest won in nine innings in Portage.

The word from the North is that Chippewa Falls won 2-1 with two runs in the seventh against D.C. Everest.
