Loss ends 40-Game SLC win streak for Falcons

Delavan Darien used a two run 6th inning  and solid defense to defeat Westosha Central 2-1 in Paddock Lake.  Jennah Speth earned the victory, allowing only 5 hits while striking out 5.  “Speth had great movement tonight,” said Co-Head Coach Tom Lampe of Westosha Central.  “ We never really got in rhythm on her tonight

The Falcons took the lead in the 4th when, with one out, Kayla Konwent singled.  Chyanne Onstad followed with a single and Kira Mickelson singled to score Konwent.  But that was all Westosha could muster.  In the 6th the Comets responded.  With one out Katelyn Gonzales singled.  She reached 3rd when Jennah Speth lined a 3-2 pitch for a double to right center.  Morgan DeLara then hit a sharp grounder to Mickelson, who tried to make a play at the plate but too late.  The Falcon pitcher, Alyssa Hrncar was able to get a strike out but Cindy Crawford lined a 2-2 pitch to right to score Speth with the deciding run.

Alyssa Hrncar was thetough luck loser.  She gave up 8 hits and two earned runs while striking out 11.

“She deserved a better result than that but we didn’t hit.,” said the coach. “ Give them (Delavan)

credit.  They made the plays in the field when they needed to.  They outplayed

us in key moments of the game.”

The loss ends a 40-game winning streak for the Falcons in the Southern Lakes Conference.  Their last loss was to Wilmot in 2012.  “It had to end sooner or later,” added the coach. “ That’s how it works.  What’s more important is how we respond to it.”

The Falcons drop to 12-1 in the SLC and 20-3 overall.  They can still clinch the outright championship with a win at Burlington on Thursday but they return to action tomorrow when they travel to Kenosha to face Tremper.
