What a game!
Tonight was a great high school softball game to be a part of win or lose. The Union Grove Broncos had several opportunities to score early in this game, putting runners at 2 and 3rd with 1 out in the second and loading the bases with no outs in the 5th and both times came away empty thanks to some great defense and timely pitching by Wilmot.
Likewise the Panthers would threaten a couple of times late but each time Bronco pitcher Brittany Moore would shut the Panthers threat down to preserve the 0-0 tie going into extra frames.
In the top of the 8th the Broncos got a leadoff single from Sophomore Kalista Hribar followed by a sac bunt from Sam Carey to move her to 2nd. The Broncos then used a fake bunt and steal to entice a throw to third that wound up in the outfield, scoring the only run in the game.
The Panthers would again threaten in the bottom half of the inning nearly dropping a seeing-eye, two-out blooper down the right field line that landed just fou.l. That flair would have likely plated both runners but Moore tightened the screws and got out of the inning and the game with the win.
In all, Moore gave up 4 hits, walked three and fanned 13 on the day in yet another splendid performance against a very tough lineup. Hribar went 2x4 on the day with a double and Senior Bailey Thur added a double in the game for the Broncos.
