Westosha Central 5 Elkhorn 0
Westosha Central rode the dominant pitching of Olivia Kazumura and timely hitting to defeat Elkhorn 5-0 yesterday. Kazumura went the distance allowing only one hit and striking out 11 Elks. “Olivia has really been at a different level for the last several games. She is very sharp and doing a great job of keeping batters guessing. She picked a great time of year for this.” (co-head coach Tom Lampe) The Falcons opened the game by scoring in the first. Kayla Kerkman led off with a hit and reached second on an error. With one out, Kerkman on third and Becca Edwards on first, Westosha pulled off a double steal. “This has been a new dimension to our game this year. The team has really done a good job on the bases all season.” (co-head coach Tom Lampe). Although that would be all the Falcons would need, they added two more in the 5th inning. Kerkman singled with one out and scored on an Edwards double with two out. Andrea Edquist doubled in Edwards one batter later. In the 7th Rylee Johnson led off with a double and reached 3rd on an error. She scored on a Carlie Odejewski single. Later in the inning, Kerkman scored again on a Kazumura sacrifice fly. “We played well tonight against a good team. Now we need to bring this momentum into the playoffs.” (co-head coach Tom Lampe). With the win the Falcons conclude their conference schedule finishing 3rd with a 10-4 record. They are 17-7 overall. They conclude their regular season schedule when they host Bradford tomorrow in Paddock Lake.
