Westosha Central 8, Lake Geneva Badger 0
Westosha Central improved to 4-1 in the Southern Lakes Conference with a 8-0 victory at Badger in Lake Geneva last night. Ellie Christeson earned her firsts varsity win going 5 innings, allowing no runs on 4 hits with 7 strikeouts. She also hit her first home run, a grand slam with two out in the 5th inning to open up the lead. “Ellie had a great game tonight. She moved the ball and changed speeds well. On her home run she did a good job of working the count to get a pitch that she could drive.” (co-head coach Tom Lampe) The Falcons opened up with a flurry, scoring 3 runs in the first frame. Kayla Kerkman led off with a double and moved to third on a single by Carlie Odejewski. Kerman scored on a single by Becca Edwards and Odejewski scored one batter on a deep sacrifice fly by Andrea Edquist. The scoring ended when Danielle Gulliford's double plated Edwards. Westosha added insurance runs in a five-run 5th inning. Again Kerkman led off with a single and was sacrificed to second by Odejewski. An Edwards double scored Kerkman. A single by Edquist and a hit batter on Alex Kelly led to Christeson's big hit. “We hit the ball well tonight. We seem to be getting into our groove. The warmer weather seems to be helping.” (co-head coach Tom Lampe) With the win the Falcons improved to 5-2 overall. They return to action tomorrow when they travel to Wilmot to play the Panthers.

Wilmot 2, Westosha Central 1
Westosha Central dropped a pivotal Southern Lakes Conference game when a heartbreaking error at the end of the game allowed Wilmot to defeat the Falcons 2-1. With two out in a tie game, Wilmot had Anna Wischowski on 1st with a single. Maddy Zerr took a 1-1 pitch to left-center for what looked to be the final out. But Falcon outfielders Carlie Odejewski and Rylee Johnson collided just as Odejewski was catching the ball. As both lay on the field, Wischowski scored the tie breaking run. “That's a tough way to lose a game. It was two evenly matched teams. Give them credit, they deserved the win.” (co-head coach Tom Lampe) Maddy Zerr was the winning pitcher going all 7 innings, striking out 6 while only allowing a single hit. Olivia Kazumura took the loss although she gave up only 4 hits while striking out 9 and allowing 6 walks. The game was scoreless into the 6th inning. In the top of the 6th, Kayla Kerkman reach second on a two-base error as her line drive was dropped in the outfield. Odejewski moved her to third on a sacrifice bunt and she scored when Becca Edwards grounded into a fielder's choice. The Panthers came back and scored a run without a hit. They loaded the bases on walks and scored when Annelise Duvall was hit by a pitch. Kazumura was able to get out of the inning without any further damage but the Falcons were unable to get a run in their half of the 7th which led Zerr's heroics. With the win, Wilmot extends its lead in the Southern Lakes. Westosha falls two games behind the Panthers in league standings. The Falcons return to action tomorrow when they face Kaukauna, Oak Creek and Menomonee Falls in Paddock Lake. Wilmot will next take on 2nd-place Burlington on Monday.
