Poynette goes 2-0, Stratford 1-1 and Spencer 0-2

Poynette 11, Stratford 0
Poynette 13, Spencer 0
Stratford 2, Spencer 1 in 8 innings

Poynette pitchers Casey Fountain (sophomore) and Mattie Bredeson (senior) tossed run-rule shortened no-hitters in Poynette on Saturday. Fountain held off Stratford and fanned nine while walking none. Bredeson took Spencer down with 10 strikeouts and no walks and was one out away from a five-inning perfect game. An error at third broke up that possibility.

Against Stratford the Pumas were led at the plate by sophomore Lizzie Schwenn who went 2x3. Sopohmore Molly Anderson was 2x4 with three rbi while freshman Peyton Kingsland was 2x2 with a pair of doubles and three rbi. Mikayla Sorge, senior lofted a high, towering shot to the fence for a triple.

"Casey was spot on today and controlled things throughout the six innings she worked," said Poynette coach Bob Tomlinson. "Our sophomores are picking up on things well and are playing well. There is plenty of stiff competition ahead this week though for this group of kids."

In game two the Pumas by Bredeson's work in the circle but she also had two hits including a triple. Ashley Hellenbrand (junior) was 2x2 with a triple while sophomore outfielder Mollie Blochwitz was 2x3 with a pair of doubles. Anderson tripled in the second while Brianna Schulz hit a double.

The Pumas move to 4-1 with that loss being at the hands of SPASH in the first game of the season in Poynette. The score of that one was 11-1 in seven innings.

In game three of the day Stratford worked out of trouble several times and ultimately got the victory in the bottom of the eighth.
