Burlington beat Union Grove today 7-6 with four runs in the top of the seventh inning. Josie Klein had three hits including a home run for Burlington while Angela Slattery had three hits for Union Grove

Meanwhile Westosha Central opened its 2018 season with a 5-1 victory over visting Waterford on a very chilly Tuesday afternoon in Paddock Lake. Olivia Kazumura earned the win by tossing a 4-hitter. She also allowed 5 walks and had 5 strike outs. The Falcon's 8 hit attack was led by Rylee Johnson and Carlie Odejewski's 3 hit performance. Solid defense also kept the Wolverines at bay. The Falcons opened the scoring in the 2nd inning. Becca Edwards led off with a walk and Odejewski legged out an infield single. After two were retired, Johnson hit the first of two doubles to centerfield to clear the bases. “We were struggling to get the key hit all game. Rylee's shot came at just the right time.” (co-head coach Tom Lampe) Westosha added another run in the 3rd when Ellie Christesen led off with a walk, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on an infield ground out by Andrea Edquist. In the 4th Waterford rallied to score their only run. Brooke Walek led off with a walk and move to 2nd on a sacrifice by Calla Esch. A wild pitch moved Walek to third. After Grace Trautman reached on walk, Waterford tried a double steal. The Falcons sniffed it out but an error in the ensuing run down allowed Walek to score. In the 5th the Wolverines threatened again. Cammers led off with a walk and reached second on a sacrifice bunt by Jemma Fiehweg. A walk to Megan Funk put two runners aboard. But Kazumura was able to get out of the jam by striking out Walek on a 3-2 count. “That was the at bat of the game. It was a great call by Andrea Edquist and a great pitch by Olivia”. (co-head coach Tom Lampe) The Falcons added two more runs in the 5th when Johnson led off with her second double. She and Christesen scored when a throw went awry on an Odejewski single. The win puts Westosha at 1-0 on the season and in the Southern Lakes Conference. They return to action tomorrow when they host Lake Geneva Badger for a 4:30 contest.
