It was no secret that long-time head softball coach Jeff Agnew was retiring at the end of his 24th season, and now his replacement has been named.

The program will be taken over by Brian Bosch in the newest FAHS Athletic Department move, which was made official on Tuesday.

Bosch spent four years as Agnew’s assistant coach, and knows the program in and out.

“This is really exciting, this is what I’ve been working for since I became a teacher and for sure what I’ve been working for in the last four years since I made the switch from baseball to softball,” Bosch said. “It’s exciting to come off of a year that we had this year and go into next year in the position.”

Bosch was a part of the 2017 Badger South Conference team and WIAA Division 1 Regional Championship team and in terms of his staff, program assistant Bill Brandl and pitching coach Stephanie Schreiner are expected to stay on.

“There might be some small changes day-to-day but the mentality is, that we want to continue to develop girls and that’s not only true in terms of their softball ability but (try and help them become) good kids too,” Bosch said. “That’s something that as a teacher, and as a coach, that’s why we do what we do.”

Bosch is a native of White Bear, Minn., and has lived in Fort Atkinson for eight years. He will coach his daughter Natalie — a first-team all conference second baseman — in her senior season.
