Chequamegon takes down Drummond

Having fallen behind 6-0 in two losses earlier in the week, the Chequamegon High School softball team turned the tables and scored seven runs in the top of the first inning en route to a 12-0 victory at Drummond on Monday.

After Korrie Herbst singled home a run in the first, Drummond was one pitch away from ending the inning. Instead, Kayla Herbst walked on a full count with two outs, Tess Richard walked to force in a run, Ally Derr lined a two-run single and Brooklyn Hanson rapped a two-run double, The seventh run of the inning scored on an error.

Chequamegon added two runs in the second on an RBI single by Kayla Herbst and an error and added an unearned run in the fourth. Klaudia Swanson had and RBI double in the fifth, followed by an RBI single by Hannah Borne.

The Screaming Eagles played flawless defense to back the two-hit, six-strikeout pitching of Mackenzie Dane.

Chequamegon (12-9) will play a regional semifinal game at Flambeau today (Tuesday) at 5 p.m. The game was originally slated to be played on Wednesday, but has been moved up a day.
