Final score was 12-2

Lake Mills stuck close to conference leading Poynette today in a game played in Poynette but in the end the Pumas prevailed over the L-Cats 12-2.

Lake Mills pitcher Emilee Frey held the Pumas' bats in check during the first two innings but a one-out walk to Rachel Renz who quickly swiped second base and back-to-back errors at shortstop and in deep leftcenter field led to the game's first runs. Haley Radewan hit a hot shot at shortstop Lexy Tople that got through her frame and when Brooke Dredske followed with a high, towering blast to the warning track L-Cat centerfielder had the ball bounce off her glove. Sophomore utility player Ashley Hellenbrand then lined a triple to the leftfield corner and the Pumas were quickly out in front 3-0. Hellenbrand then scored on an infield ground out off the bat of pitcher Mattie Bredeson.

In the meantime Pumas' pitcher, Bredeson, was holding the L-Cat batters in check. She retired the first nine in order and looked like she might make it nine straight when with two outs Brianna Jessie hit a ball to shortstop Haley Radewan that took a wicked hop and allowed Jessie to be safe at first. Emilee Frey followed with a single but an infield pop up caught by Radewan at shortstop ended the threat.

The Pumas plated another run in the fourth inning shen Maegan Brookins singled, stole second and scored when Radewan lined a smash at Topel at shortstop that got through her and into leftfield.

The Pumas had a shutdown inning in the fifth as Bredeson retired the side with four batters. She walked Maddy Anderson for the only base on balls she issued in the game.

Poynette drew a pair of base on balls by Makayla Sorge and Allison Tomlinson to start the fifth before Bredeson flew out to rightfield. Sidney Gorman hit a smash at third sacker Jessie that got through her and with the bases loaded freshman catcher Lizzie Schwenn drew a base on balls forcing Sorge home for a run. Freshman pitcher/utility player Casey Fountain then hit a deep fly ball to center that plated Tomlinson making the score 7-0.

The L-Cats mounted some offense in the sixth when Topel doubled just inside the foul line in rightfield with the ball making it to the corner of the playing area. Sydney Meschke hit into a fielder's choice where both runners were safe. Jessie ten hit a ball to shortstop that was booted loading the bases. The next batter, Frey  lined into a double play to first sacker Brooke Dredske who stepped on first to retire Jessie. Jessie Clift then doubled to deep centerfield beyond the reach of the outfielder scoring Topel and Mseschke.

The Pumas cached the victory, their 22nd of the season in the sixth when they scored five runs aided by two more L-Cat errors and singles by Aubri Kitson and Gorman.

Now 22-1 the Pumas host Lakeside Lutheran on Friday before winding up the regular season next week with games at Luther Prep and home against Columbus.
