On a cold, wet day the Glarner Knights traveled to Diamond of Champions in Poynette for a Capitol Conference cross-over game, the last of such games between these two teams due to a new scheduling system within the Capitol Conference.

The playing surface was in excellent playing condition. The Pumas scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning after Maegan Brookins flew out to deep leftfield. Rachel Renz reached on an infield single and Haley Radewan followed with a base on balls, the first of nine issued by the Glarner Knight pitcher. Ashley Helllenbrand then doubled down the leftfield line to score both runners and when pitcher Mattie Bredeson flew out to center scored the third run.

Bredeson was in command from the get go and pitched the first three innings. She allowed one hit, walked three and struck out seven. Radewan finished up the fourth and fifth innings allowing no runs on four hits and walked one.

Poynette scored seven runs in the second inning after two were out and nobody aboard. Allison Tomlinson took a pitch off her left thigh and Brookins was then hit in the leg to put runners on first and second. Renz then hit a ball that appeared to be foul and in all the confusion eventually was safe at first on a throwing error by the catcher that sailed into right field past the outfielder. That allowed Tomlinson and Brookins to score and Renz wound up at second. Hellenbrand then delivered her second double. What followed was a result of the chaos that had already occurred. Bredeson drew a base on balls and a courtesy runner was inserted. Brooke Dredske then drew another base on balls and four pitches later Mya Knuteson loaded the bases with yet a third base on balls. Sidney Gorman then laced a single to left and when Knuteson was called out for leaving second too early the inning ended.

The final three runs scored in the bottom of the fourth with Makayla Sorge's single to left, Brooke Dredske followed with a single up the middle and Knutson walked agon to load the bricks. Tomlinson then walked to send Sorge home and when Brookins singled pinch runner Casey Fountain scored as did Knuteson.

"We hit the ball hard when we got pitches to swing at," said Head Coach Bob Tomlinson. "Bouncers, rollers and balls over the umpire's head are tough to handle if you swing at them."

"Mattie and Haley did a remarkable job on a very cold day. It's tough to pitch when your fingers are tingling from the cold and if you fouled one off at bat and wound up with two hands full of bees it's even tougher to pitch."
