Westosha Central recorded their second victory in as many days with some late inning offense to defeat host Waterford 14-5. Olivia Kazumura earned her the victory to improve to 3-0 on the season. She allowed 10 hits while striking out 6 with no walks. The Falcons took an early lead when leadoff Kayla Kerkman singled and after two wild pitches, scored on an Olivia Klean sacrifice fly. The Wolverines came right back. A leadoff single by Jemma Fiehweg turned into a sacrifice fly by Myranda Shuttenhelm. Both teams traded runs in the second. Becca Edward singled and scored on an error and Waterford responded with Megan Funk plating Gracie Trautman who had doubled. The Wolverines then took a lead after three innings. Schuttenhelm reached on a one-out error and moved to second on a Brooke Walek single. Both scored when Gabi LaPine doubled to centerfield. But the Falcons took the lead for good off of LaPine in the fourth. Four singles in the first five batters (Carrie Weis, Edwards, Danielle Gulliford, and Sarai Roberts) led to two runs. Another scored on Kerkman's second single and Roberts and Kerkman both scored on an Olivia Klean single. After batting around in the 4th inning, the Falcons did it again in the 5th inning and that was enough to chase LaPine. Singles by Weis and Kerkman led to runs and a two-run RBI triple by Klean capped the six run inning. Westosha added to its lead when Kira Mickelson hit her first home run of the season to leftfield. "We started slow today and we had some mental lapses. We know we can't continue to do that and they will get that worked out. With that said, they rose to the challenge when they needed to and everyone did a great job at the plate, especially as the game wore on." (co-head coach Tom Lampe) With the win, the Falcons move to 4-0 overall and in the Southern Lakes. They return to action on Monday when they host county rival Wilmot in a key conference game in Paddock Lake at 3:30.
