On yet another day not so fit for fastpitch the Poynette Pumas’ softball team traveled to Lake Mills for a game with the L-Cats. The final score was 17-3.

Poynette started quickly as leadoff batter Maegan Brookins singled to lead off the game, stole second and scored from there on a deep fly ball to rightfield off the bat of Haley Radewan. Brooke Dredske then hit a “screamin  liner” straight ove the head of the centerfielder for a double and scored when Mattie Bredeson single to leftfield.

Poynette scored again in the third inning with four runs on an error, Dredske’s second hot liner to the outfield fence for a double and a two run double by Mya Knuteson.

In the meantime Pumas’ pitcher Mattie Bredeson was working on a perfect game through three innings including seven strikeouts. She allowed a leadoff single in the fourth to catcher Jessie Clift and walked Levy Topel for the only baserunners she would allow in four innings of work. She fanned eight . Freshman pitcher Molly Anderson worked t he fifth inning for Poynette, faced five batters, walked one and gave up two hits including a three-run homer by Clift.

“We found some varsity innings for five of these freshman today and will get some innings for some sophomores and juniors in the next few games,” said Head Coach Bob Tomlinson. “The regulars are hitting pretty well but things will tighten up in the next few games.”

Brookins went 2x4 while  Dredske was 4x4 with three rbi and Mya Knuteson was 2x3 with two doubles a sacrifice fly and seven rbi.

Haley Radewan hit a towering blast straight above the leftfielder and well beyond the outfield fence for a two-run homer. “That particular shot along with two by Dredske and one by Knuteson were blistering hot,” said Tomlinson. “In the game it’s called hitting it on the nose.”

Poynette plays at home on Thursday hosting Cambridge. Poynette is now 9-0 and 4-0.
