The Chequamegon High School softball team rebounded from a season-opening loss to Tomahawk on Friday to sweep a doubleheader from Regis at Gelein Field in Eau Claire's Carson Park on Saturday, April 8.

Korrie Herbst blasted a two-run homer to back the four-hit pitching of Mackenzie Dane as the Screaming Eagles won the opener 4-2. Dane fanned six with no walks for the win in the circle.

Dane singled home Klaudia Swanson in the third inning. In the fourth, Josi Orr singled and Swanson executed a perfect suicide squeeze to score courtesy runner Alli Derr ahead of Herbst's line drive homer.

Regis threatened with a pair of unearned runs before Dane slammed the door. Dane had three of Chequamegon's seven hits.

Chequamegon played catch-up as the home team in game two. Regis scored twice in both the second and third innings for a 4-0 lead.

Korrie Herbst and Dane singled ahead of Remi Orr's two-run double in the bottom of the third. Pinch runner Maggie Miller scored the third run of the inning on an error.

Regis led 5-3 into the bottom of the sixth when pinch hitter Kadie Metza rapped a one-out single. Swanson re-entered and eventually scored on a passed ball and Korrie Herbst scored the tying run on a wild pitch.

Regis pulled ahead 6-5 in the top of the seventh. Freshmen Kiana Schmidt and Josi Orr hit back-to-back singles to open the Chequamegon seventh. Schmidt scored on a bunt single by Swanson. Korrie Herbst capped a huge day with a sacrifice fly to send Josi Orr home with the winning run.

Dane got the win in relief of Eva Pasewald, who allowed just two earned runs over five innings. Dane struck out three, walked and allowed one hit and one run over the final two innings.
