C. Luebke drives in game-winner

Mayville traveled to Lake Mills to take on Lakeside Lutheran and left town with a hard-earned 7-6 win.

Both teams plated three runs in the third and Lakeside took a two-run lead in the bottom of the fourth only to see Mayville get one in the sixth and one in the seventh.

The game winner came in the bottom of the 8th when Pliner doubled and scored on an rbi single by Luebke.

The winning pitcher was Callie Pliner who allowed 10 hits, struck out 11 but walked just one. The loser was Brett Burger who allowed 13 hits, walked four and fanned none.

The girls really fought hard all night.  They battled against a very solid pitcher and a very good team overall.  I am really proud of the effort that we had all night.

"Brett Burger had another solid performance in the circle for us," said Lakeside coach Matt Doering.  " She is really leading us as a Senior.  She played to her strengths and the defense backed her up. The middle of our lineup hit the ball hard all night (Kelsey, Shannon and Kaity) and our younger players competed and made some things happen at the bottom of the order.  We manufactured some runs with pressure on offense and gave ourselves a chance to win.

Claire Luebke had four hits for Mayville while Alli Luebke had three hits. Kelsey Birschbach had three hits for Lakeside.
