Beats Eau Claire North 10-0 and falls to Whitnall 3-2

Westosha Central split a pair of games at the Poynette Jamboree on Saturday in defeating Eau Claire North 10-0 while falling to Whitnall 3-2 in the nightcap. In game one the Falcons used a solid offense, led by Kayla Konwent and Olivia Klean (3 RBIs each). Klean started the scoring by plating two in the 1st on a hard single to center. The Falcons really added to their lead in the 3rd. Again a Klean single plated Chyanne Onstad. Konwents bases loaded, bases clearing double finished the scoring. "That was nice to see how we hit in the first game. We were relaxed and patient at the plate. Their pitcher gave us a really hard time last year. We adjusted well." (co-head coach Tom Lampe) Two runs was all that Alyssa Hrncar would need to notch the victory. She allowed only 2 hits while striking out 11. "Alyssa is coming around just fine. Her pitches are really moving and she seems to be hitting her stride." (co-head coach Tom Lampe)
In game two the Falcons got plenty of hits and base runners but couldn't get the key hit in falling to Whitnall. Olivia Klean was the hard luck pitcher, allowing all three runs. "Olivia really did a nice job of keeping them in check. We just didn't keep them in check when we needed to." (co-head coach Tom Lampe) The turning point in the game came in the 5th. Trailing 1-0, the Falcons loaded the bases with no one out. Konwent plated Kayla Kerkman when she was hit by a pitch. But Sarah Bauer, replacing got the next three hitters on two pop outs and a strike out to end the threat. "We needed to get more out of that inning. We just pressed too much and they are too good a team to let them off the hook like that. Give them credit, they kept their cool and limited the damage." (co-head coach Tom Lampe) Whitnall came back in the 6th to take the lead for good. A single by Haley Wynn, walk and a double steal caught the Falcons unaware. The throw from Konwent rolled into left field allowing Wynn to score. "That was a tough play to over come." (co-head coach Tom Lampe) A single by Alex Cimler plated another run and Westosha had a lead they couldn't overcome. "This was a good game today and they were a very good opponent. They are well deserving of their rank (in the coaches poll). Poynette was challenging for us this year. We just hope to learn from it and move forward. If we do we will be fine." (co-head coach Tom Lampe). Today's games put the Falcon's record at 16-3 overall. They return to action in the Southern Lakes on Tuesday when they travel to Waterford to battle the Wolverines.
