Verona and Sun Prairie both landed early hay-makers before a 10-run fourth inning by the Wildcats decided the Thursday April 22 match up played at Verona's Field of Dreams. Verona wound up with a 17-7 win (5 innings).

Verona freshman Meghan Anderson got her first career start and she was 2/3 of an inning into that start when Sun Prairie's Alyssa Blair said "Welcome to the Big 8" with a solo home run shot to center. Not to be outdone, Verona's third baseman Nicole Neitzel hoisted a three-run shot over the left field fence in the bottom half of the frame.

The two teams traded blows through three innings, when Verona finally opened things up with 10 Wildcats plating in the fourth, taking advantage of two Cardinals miscues and getting most of their 13 total hits in the long inning.

The senior Neitzel added a second home run on her day, in addition to sophomore catcher Savanna Rainey getting a three-run homer, plus another home run from sophomore left fielder Emma Kleinsek.
