Kira Mickelson hit grand slam

Westosha Central used three home runs (2 by Chyanne Onstad) to defeat host and county rival Wilmot 10-0 in 6 innings. Alyssa Hrncar benefitted from the offensive outburst to earn her 5th win of the season, going the distance. She allowed just two hits while striking out six. "Alyssa had her usual day; get the opponent to put the ball in play and let her defense make plays." (co-head coach Tom Lampe) The game moved along until the 3rd inning before the Falcons were able to dent the scoreboard on Sarah Hutchinson. With one out and Hrncar on 1st, Kayla Konwent and then Chyanne Onstad were walked. Kira Mickelson then launched a pitch over the left-center wall for a grand slam for her 4th home run of the season. "Kira has been a clutch performer for us all season. She tends to get overlooked because of all the other hitters but she has been this consistent all season." (co-head coach Tom Lampe) In the 5th inning, after another Konwent walk, Onstad launched a shot over the center field wall. She repeated that feat in her next at bat in the 6th inning by putting a 3-run homer in almost the same spot for the final margin of victory. "That first one was blasted and the second one was also hit well. It's hard to go through that part of our line up because they (Konwent, Onstad, and Mickelson) are all such good hitters." (co-head coach Tom Lampe) The Falcons extended their shut out streak to 34 innings and six games but it took a keen eye to do so. With one out in the 5th inning, Hutchinson hit a hard line drive to a solo home run. But a player on the Falcon bench noticed that she missed 1st base. Upon appeal, she was called out for failing to touch the base. "That's a tough one for Sarah. She should have had a home run and ruined the shut out but I am proud of our bench that they kept themselves involved in the game. I'm proud of their focus." (co -head coach Tom Lampe) With the win the Falcons improved to 8-1 overall and 4-1 in the Southern Lakes Conference. They return to action on Saturday when they travel to Burlington for another conference tilt with the Demons.
