Poynette slips past Waterloo

Waterloo traveled to Poynette for a Capitol Conference cross-over game today. A light rain fell from time to time throughout the game but the Diamond of Champions infield remained in fantastic playing condition.

The Pumas scored five runs in the second inning highlighted by a Mya Knuteson two-run double and a three run homer by junior Haley Radewan. Senior Abby Neabling started the inning off by reaching on an infield error. Brea Falstad then had an infield single and Allison Tomlinson singled to center. Knuteson then took an interesting 2-2 pitch to leftfield for a double. Interesting because she failed to appear in the batter’s box to start the at bat. Instead the leadoff batter was there for the first four pitches before the Pumas’ coaching staff quickly got the correct batter, Knuteson up there. She hit the 2-2 pitch off the fence in left field. After a flyout to left off the bat of Meagan Brookins, Rachel Renz reached first on a fielder’s choice, stole second and scored when Radewan launched her second home run of the season.

Meanwhile starting pitcher Allie Bredeson held off the hard-swinging Pirates through the first four innings. She allowed two unearned runs, walked two and fanned five. She gave way to her sophomore sister Mattie who finished up the last three innings, allowing one hit, walked one and fanned five

The Pumas scored a single run in the third when senior catcher, already the school record holder for free passes via being hit by a pitch got hit and reached first base. A sacrifice bunt by Falstad moved Barnharst to second where she scored when Allison Tomlinson singled up the middle. The Pumas added the seventh run in the sixth inning shen Falstad doubled then scored on an rbi single by Knuteson who, along with Radewan had three rbi.

Knuteson went 3x3 in the number nine spot while Tomlinson and Falstad were both 2x3.

“We had some hard hit balls that Waterloo did a great job of stopping and recording outs,” said Pumas’ Head Coach Bob Tomlinson. “The sisters Bredeson did a fine job of holding off what is becoming a pretty good hitting team. I was happy with both of them. “

Columbus 3, Wisconsin Heights 2
Columbus came from behind twice to knot the score and won it with a run in the sixth.

Columbus edged Wisconsin Heights in the rain on Tuesday.  Heights scored first with a run in the top of the third when Taylor Kraemer was hit by a pitch and later was driven in on a single by Doherty. Columbus tied it in the fourth when Lydia Brockel hit a two-out triple, and courtesy runner Rachel Weisensel scored on a passed ball.

Heights scored one more in the top of the fifth when Jenna Schuman led off with a single, and  moved to second on a passed ball and then third on a wild pitch. Doherty drove in Schuman with her second hit of the game. Columbus answered in the bottom half of the inning when Kaitlyn Borde reached on an error, stole second and scored when the throw got into the outfield.
