Pepin unveils new banner at legendary Haines Field, Wisconsin Heights win big

Union Grove 10, Kenosha Bradford 0
Bradford        0 R, 4 H, 3 E
Union Grove 10 R, 8 H, 1 E
UG by inning: 3 in the 5th, 7 in the 6th
Union Grove used the impressive duo of Allie Trudeau and Brittany Moore to shut down Bradford long enough for UG's bats to come alive.  Trudeau worked 3 1/3 innings striking out 9 while walking 1 while Moore would pick up the win while pitching the final 2 and 2/3's walking none and striking out 4. Union Grove found itself in a pitchers duel for the first 4 innings with both teams mounting serious threats but with the pitchers and defense working their way out of them.  In the 1st, Union Grove got a one out single from Sam Carey who promptly stole 2nd and reached third on a PB but was picked off attempting to reach home on another PB.  UG would mount a small threat in the 3rd putting a runner on 2nd with a  2 out single and stolen base before Bradford pitcher Ellie Bernero would induce a comebacker to get out of the inning.  The Broncos again threatened in the 4th as they got a leadoff double from Claire Ryan, sacrificed her to third where she was stranded after two groundouts to third and the pitcher respectively.  Bradford on the other hand used a leadoff walk and a HBP in the top of the 3rd to put runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs.  After sacrificing the runners to 2nd and 3rd, Trudeau flexed her muscle and struck out the 3 and 4 hitters to end the threat.  In the 4th, Bradford would use a leadoff single and an error to put the first two batters on.  After a strikeout followed by a single to load the bases the Broncos would use their pitching depth to give a little different look and turned to Moore to shut the door.  Moore responded in tune by striking out the next two batters to end Bradford's best threat of the day. Union Grove would finally get to Bernero in the 5th after a one out HBP and a sacrifice to 2nd led to an RBI single off the bat of Kallista Hribar who would advance to 2nd on the throw home.   Sam Carey would follow with a RBI single of her own back up the middle plating Hribar and going to 2nd on the throw home.  The Broncos would then use a pair of errors to plate Carey for the third and final run of the inning.  The Broncos weren't done there, however, as they batted around in the sixth with Brooklyn Ottelien homering to leadoff the sixth and then using some hits, an error and a couple of walks, including a bases loaded double off the top of the fence from Alyssa McClelland to clear the bases.  Pinch runner Ally McMillian would end the game in the sixth reaching home on a PB. Coach Boylen said this about the game, "Bernero threw really well for Bradford and moved the ball in and out and kept us guessing all day.  She had a bit of extra zip on her ball from the last time we saw her and we didn't do a good job of making adjustments early.  Bradford is a tough, scrappy, well coached team.  Fortunately for us we have a couple of really good pitchers who can occasionally afford us the time to figure things out and make some adjustments.  This was a game that was much closer than the score would indicate.  Fortunately for us we were able to hang on long enough to figure things out and get on a bit of a roll."

Poynette 18, New Glarus 1
Poynette jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the first inning when The Glarner Knights experienced some defensive lapses by not getting to some catchable balls. Those situations turned into safe hits instead of outs. Poynette collected fvie hits in the inning including a double by Allison Tomlinson. The Pumas added one more run in the third when Rachel Renz drew a base on balls, stole second and scored on a single by Mya Knuteson. Nine more runs were added in the fourth when a couple more catchable balls fell in and two errors took place. In the ffith Brea Falstad singled and when junior utility player Kalyn Haag laced a Glarner Knight offering over the fence in center the 17th and 18th runs scored. Haley Radewan got the win, pitching all five innings, allowing one run which was unearned, walked none and fanned 8. She allowed four hits, three of which were also catchable. Senior catcher Riley Barnharst went 3x4 with a double and three rbi while Allie Bredeson was 2x4 with two rbi, Tomlinson was 2x3 with three rbi. The Pumas collected 15 hits in all and drew just four walks. The Pumas travel to Thorp on Saturday for a doubleheader there. Poynette is now 4-0; 4-0.

SPASH 13, Watertown 0
Five Watertown errors led to eight unearned runs but the Goslings struggled to move runners up as well as they collected seven hits but could not score of junior Aubri Drohner who walked none and struck out four. The Panthers got one in the first, one in the second, 2 in both the fourth and fifth and seven in the sixth to create the mercy rule. Pavelski and Drohner each collected three hits for SPASH while Kluck got two. Jensen went 2x3 for the Goslings. SPASH plays Saturday in the Western Kenosha County Invitational.

Chequamegon 10, Crandon 0
Sophomore Mackenzie Dane allowed one hit over five innings while fanning 10 as the Chequamegon High School softball team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 10-0 victory over Crandon on Friday, April 15, at the Park Falls Athletic Complex. Freshman Eva Pasewald pitched a scoreless sixth inning for the Screaming Eagles, allowing one hit and striking out one.  Junior Remi Orr fueled an 11-hit attack for Chequamegon, going 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles. Emily Mader and Kayla Herbst added two hits each and Dane and Tess Richard drove in two runs each.

Columbus 4, Waterloo 3
After 2 scoreless innings for both teams, Kaitlyn Borde singled with one out in the third, stole second and took third when the throw went into centerfield. Maria Wedig then drove in the game's first run with a sacrifice fly to left. Hannah Boettcher followed with a 2-out single and stole two. Lauren Kirchberg drove in Boettcher with a single to give Columbus a 2-0 lead.  Waterloo answered in the bottom of the inning, capitalizing on two walks and a single by Megan Springer to make the score 2-1. It was the only run allowed by Columbus starter Lauren Kirchberg, who scattered three hits and struck out seven batters in four inning of work. With the score still 2-1 heading into the seventh, Brianna Farrington drove in 2 runs with a 2-out single in the top of the inning to give Columbus a 4-1 lead. Waterloo opened the bottom half of the inning with singles by Jasmine Kohls and Kaitlyn Filter. A ground ball by Miranda Dorn moved the runners. Ashley Kniesel then hit a deep fly ball to left, that was misplayed and plated both runners. After a pop fly to second for the second out, Megan Springer battled for a walk. With runners on first and third and two out, reliever Farrington struck out the batter to end the game.
