Sun Prairie tips Madison LaFollette today

Hello Again Fastpitch Folks,

It was a beautiful day today for practice or games. After our practice I took off (actually I took off before practice was over) and headed for a game about an hour away that I knew was going to be played.  It was a game between one of the largest Division 3 schools in the state and a very highly ranked one and a highly ranked Division 2 club.

It promised to be an interesting game and as I traveled the distance between here and there I thought about things I would be interested in noting.  I arrived at the field and parked my car. As I got out I noticed to familar umpire faces sitting on a couple of collapsible lawn chairs getting fired up to officiate the game.  Both umpires are top notch and as a matter of fact umpired the sectional final in Boscobel last spring.

The game was played with home plate facing a southeasterly direction with the wind blowing in from the south-southeast.  Both pitchers have proven themselves over the past few years as they both enter their senior campaigns. The home team’s pitcher was a first team All WFSCA all state chucker last year and her catcher was a WFSCA first team receiver in 2015. A safety squeeze plated the first run of the game for the home team and later on the first-team all state pitcher launched a two-run shot over the fenc e in left with a quartering shot to the wind. It was high and deep enough to clear the fence at 200. In the end the visitors garnered just a couple of base runners with the final score being 4-0.

The game produced the sort of information I expected on my ride down. The umpire behind the plate held true to his past form in the ball and strike department while the fella on the bases had an easy day with no close calls. (He’d have gotetn them all correct even if ther e had been some close ones).

A quick look at the wissports softball scores from today (as of 9:15) doesn’t produce a lot of scores but some noteable ones include a 7-3 win for Sun Prairie over Madison LaFollette while River Ridge/Cassville nipped Fennimore 3-2. In a few other scores from that site include Randolph with a 24-3 win over Princeton-Green Lake; Waupun took down Markesan 11-4; Alma Center Lincoln suprised Eau Claire Immanuel 6-0; highly touted Augusta beat Melrose-Mindoro 16-4 while Highland moved to 1-1 with an 8-4 win over Seneca. Milwaukee King traveled to Baraboo where the host Thunderbirds moved to 2-0 on the season with a 18-1 victory over the Generals. King got just one hit.

Check back in tomorrow for a look at the Fastpitch Chronicle Group’s take on the Division 3 teams in the state to watch closely.

Have a great Day!
Keep it Rising!
Bob
