Beware the Ides of March

Hello Fastpitch Fans,

Today marks the Ides of March which means the middle of the month. The only thing I am wary of on this day, in this season is the weather. I'm hoping that any precipitation that might fall will do so after we've been on the diamond for the second day in a row here in Poynette. Actualy I'm hoping that for the second day in a row we'll be on both of our softball diamonds.

The first day here was a great one. We were on the fields throughout the entire practice. Our pitchers, all seven of them were facing our batters non-stop for more than two hours of intra-squad matchups.  We have lots of positions up for grabs and have lots of kids leaving the state beginning tomorrow and continuing through the spring break which ends on April 3rd. It would not have been a good year to be couped up inside throughout all that time so getting out there on the diamonds was a great way to start the 38th season at Poynette.

Yesterday marked the 41st first day of WIAA softball season in Wisconsin with 1976 being the first year that the organization sponsored a state tournament series.

I'm sure that many of the other teams in the state were also outside and many were probably on their infields as well.

In the next week or two we'll be highlighting some of the top conference and state contenders in this the final season of four-division fastpitch softball in the state of Wisconsin. Coaches or fans can forward pre-season outlooks to me beginning today and I'll get them posted so the fans can read all about them.

I have posted one today for you to read.

Coaches and umpires are reminded that the date to have completed and submitted the rules test is March 22nd.

Coaches are reminded that there is a sunshine date to join the WFSCA or you'll have to pay a substantial penalty if you choose to join after the initial deadline. If you do not join at all, you as well as your players will not be eligible for post-season award consideration. There are no third chances. First chance is to join now, second chance by the date posted and that's it. So join up!

The time schedule for the 2017 state tournament will be an interesting one. It will really shake things up if rain interrupts the schedule at Goodman Diamond.

Have a great day!

Keep it Rising!
Bob
