Change to On Deck batter location in 2016 -- check it out!

Hello Again Fastpitch Enthusiasts.

This is the first Fastpitch Softball News Bulletin for 2016.  This marks the first bulletin in the 16th consecutive year that I have posted them.  Most of the older ones are still archived and contain a plethora of information.

I will once again be posting periodic bulletins from here on out throughout the upcoming season.

Here’s an announcement from the folks in Wautoma. They will be hosting a July Tournament  there and have a pdf posted on their website. Here is the link to that form. Check it out. The entry fee is really reasonable for an event with a three-game guarantee.

The official start of the season is March 14th. That is one week away.

The WFSCA clinic was again a successful one thanks to all the work of the WFSCA Executive staff who were on hand to make things run smoothly.

Congratulations to Dave Keel of Homestead, Roger Schlieve of Horicon and Jim Wickert who assisted at McFarland and now at Madison College. Those three were the 2016 inductees into the WFSCA Hall of Fame. The banquet was a big success due in part to the work that HOF Chairman Jeff Agnew of For t Atkinson put in to get the previously inducted member sof the HOF to return. I believe they announced that 19 of the former inductees were in attendance that night.

There are some changes this year in Wisconsin High School softball. One of the most notable will be the fact that Wisconsin will follow the NFHS rule on where the on-deck batter must be located. This year the on-deck batter will be located in front of her team bench area and not behind the batter. Check the rules book for recommended distances between home plate and the center of the on-deck circle.

The NFHS also has a new rule probhibiting Projected Substitutions.  It’s Rule2-57-4. Projected substitiutions have never been per the Rules Book. Often times coaches would report a Projected permitted Substitute a half inning early etc. For example: “Hey  Ump, #31 is batting for #44 right now but #44 will re-enter.” Now there is language that explains and defines it in 2-57-4. “A projected substitute is the act of entering a subsititute without first removing a player from that position in the lineup.  This one is pretty easy to understand and follow.

Be sure to check out the American flag and commemorative patches rule as explained in the Rules Book or Case Book.

Coaches whose teams are planning on participating in the Poynette Fastpitch Jamboree should contact me just to confirm that our AD has a contract from you.

Have a great week of preparation for your upcoming season.

Keep it Rising
