Beats Union Grove in Sectional Final

Westosha Central earned its 4th straight trip to state by defeating Union Grove 12-2 in 6 innings to win the Union Grove sectional last night.  Alyssa Hrncar got her 22nd win of the season allowing 2 runs (both earned) on 6 hits while striking out 4.  "Alyssa didn't have her strike out stuff today but she got them when she needed them," said co-head coach Tom Lampe.

It was the Broncos that started the scoring in the 2nd inning.  With one out Brooklyn Ottelien singled to left. The flex Taylor Clark running for Ottelien, reached 2nd on a wild pitch.  One out later, Brittany Moore roped a single to center, scoring Clark.  She then stole 2nd base and scored on a single by Kalista Hribar.  On the play Hribar reached 3rd on an error.  Just when it looked like Union Grove would score another run, Hrncar induced Sam Carey to ground out to 3rd.  The Falcons responded quickly.  With 2 out in their half of the 2nd, Brooke Biedrzycki walked.  She reached second on a single by Jenna on taxis.  Hrncar followed with a single to left, scoring Biedrzycki.  Then on a 3 and 2 count, Kayla Konwent hit her 20th home run of the season with a shot to right.  "Those two at bats seemed to change the momentum.  We seemed to come alive after Alyssa's hit and they seemed to drop a little bit after Kayla's blast,"  added co-head coach Tom Lampe.  Westosha added to its lead in the 4th by plating 3 more runs.  Kontaxis and Hrncar led off with singles and Konwent was walked to load the bases.  At that point Union Grove replaced starter Brittany Moore with Allie Trudeau.  The next batter, Chyanne Onstad (4-4 with 5 RBIs) singled to left, scoring Kontaxis and courtesy runner Kayla Kerkman.  Konwent's courtesy runner, Sarai Roberts later scored on a error.  Keeping it up, the Falcons added 4 more in the 5th.  With 2 out Hrncar reached on an error and Konwent singled.  Onstad followed with a 3-run home run to left.  "That was a shot.  It would have gone out of any field in the state.  I'm so happy for Chy.  She had an awesome game, " co-head coach Tom Lampe.  Kira Mickelson followed Onstad with a shot to center for the 4th run.  Westosha secured the title in the 6th.  Olivia Klean led off with a double to right center.  She was sacrificed to 3rd by Julia Jester and scored the final run on Biedrzycki's triple to right.  "We had a great day at the plate against two very good pitchers.  I don't think too many people saw this coming. I know we didn't.  Union Grove is a very good team regardless of what happened today, "co-head coach Tom Lampe.  With the win the Falcons improved to 25-4.

They will open at state with a game against Chippewa Falls at 1:30 on Thursday.
