Westosha Central survived an 8 inning scare to defeat Wilmot 3-2 in the sectional semi-final in Paddock Lake last night.  Jenna Kontaxis’ two-out single scored Kayla Kerkman with the winning run to get the Falcons to the final game against Union Grove on Thursday.  “That was a clutch hit by Jenna,” said Co-Head Coach Tom Lampe.  “ She has really taken to her role recently and she adds a detention to our offense that was sorely needed.”

Westosha took an early lead when with one out Chyanne Onstad  hit her 2nd home run of the season-a shot to center.  “Nobody knew at the time, but that was a big hit in the game,” quipped Lampe.   “We wound up needing that to get us into extra innings.  Chy has come through over and over for us.”

The Panthers threatened Central all game long.  They loaded the bases in the first with one out but came up empty.  In the 2nd they scored when Hannah Grossi doubled to lead off the inning.  She scored on a sharp single to right by Kalyssa Koehn.  Wilmot was able to tie the game in the 4th.  Lauren Orszula led off with a single and was sacrificed to 2nd.  She scored on a single by Sam Schloegl.  After the 4th it was Westosha that had the chances and couldn’t cash in.  Twice the Falcons got a runner on, only to see them erased in 4-6-3 double plays.  In the 7th they loaded the bases themselves with two outs but were unable to come up with the hit.  “Both teams had their chances in this game,” added Lampe.  “ It could have gone either way.  We were fortunate to get the last chance and Jenna delivered.”

Alyssa Hrncar (21-3)  earned the win.  She allowed 8 hits and 2 runs while striking out 6.  “Alyssa

had to work hard today,” said Lampe. “ They (Wilmot) worked the count and she constantly had  to work out of jams.  But in the end she was able to do so.”

Lauren Orszula was the hard-luck loser, allowing only 3 runs on 8 hits. “This is one of those games you hate to see a team lose,”  said Lampe. “Both teams played well enough to win.  I’m glad we’re done with them this season.  They made every game difficult for us

With the win the Falcons improved to 24-4.  They next take the field in the sectional final when they play Union Grove at Union Grove.
