Kayla Konwent connects on 19th homer this season

Westosha Central opened their 2015 playoffs with a 10-0 5 inning win over visiting Fort Atkinson last night.  The Falcons used an 8 run first inning, which was highlighted by Kayla Konwent’s 19th home run to cruise to the victory.

Alyssa Hrncar returned to her winning ways by allowing only 3 hits while striking out 12.  “She looked like she was getting stronger as the game went on.  That was a big game for her,” said Co-Head Coach Tom Lampe.

Hrncar led off the bottom of the 1st by reaching on an error.  Konwent then launched her shot, off the left field foul pole, scoring courtesy runner Kayla Kerkman. Chyanne Onstad then doubled and scored on a Kira Mickelson single.  After anElaine Andersen single, Olivia Klean singled in both runs.  Jenna Kontaxis then singled in Klean and she and Kerkman scored on the second Onstad hit of the inning, a single.
“That was just what we needed to start the game.  It set the tone for us and just let us settle down and play,” added Lampe.”

After the first, Hrncar kept the Blackhawks off balance.  The score remained the same until the bottom of the 5th.  Brooke Biedrzycki led off with a two-strike triple.  She scored on another Kontaxis single.  Hrncar then singled and Konwent was walked. to bring up Onstad.  She hit a shot to short and Kontaxis was able to beat the throw to the plate to end the game.  “It always nice to get the first one out of the way.  Hopefully we can continue to play at this level,” summarized the coach.

With the win the Falcons improved to 23-4 on the season.  They will host Wilmot tomorrow in the sectional semifinal.
