Things got started slowly in the top of the first for the visiting Pumas as the first two batters went down in order. Third sacker Brooke Dredske injected some life into the Pumas with a single and a steal of second base. When the #4 batter, Riley Barnharst drw a base on balls the Pumas had runners on 1 and 12 with rightfielder Dani Treinein due up. On a 0-1 count Treinen laced a single to left butthe bal was hit hard enough that the leftfielder caught it on first bounce as she was running toward the plate. The lead runner was held at third. So the bases were loaded for catcher Emily Cibulka. She lined a double to rightcenter  that scored both runners for a 2-0 Pumas' lead.

In the third inning the Pumas plated two more runs when Dredske led off with a double and Barnharst sacrificed her to second. Treinen launched a missle toward the fence in leftfield. The ball, battling the wind struck the fence for a double and one rbi. When Cibulka drew a base on balls Jenna Sandstrom lined an infield off the facemask of the Waterloo third sacker.Treinen scored  but Cibulka was cut down at the plate on a great hustle play by shortstop Kaia Dorn.

Poynette pitcher Jordan Blochwitz had put the Pirates down in order through two innings and added a third 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the third.

The Pumas scored seven runs in the fourth and the big blow was a grand slam home run by Sandstrom.

Ashley Kneisel doubled to lead off the Pirate fourth and scored when Dorn hit a sacrifice fly to rightfield.
