Poynette - The thermometer was up to about 80 this afternoon when Poynette hosted Lake Mills at Diamond of Champions here and pitcher Jordan Blochwitz was heated up as well.
The senior righthander, with help from several excellent defensive plays, tossed a nifty no-hitter at the L-Cats today, striking out 13 and walking just one.
On offense the Pumas were fueled by 11 hits including doubles by Emily Cibulka and Dani Treinen and a two-run blast over the fence in leftcenter by centerfielder Jenna Sandstrom. Jordyn Mackey went 2x3, Cibulka was 2x2 and Treinein went 2x3. Shelby Wheeler went 2x2 as well.
The Pumas scored five runs in the second inning and staked Blochwitz to a lead that she seldom surrenders. She faced three batters in the first, second, fourth, fifth and sixth innings. In the L-Cat second two errors allowed two runners and a one-out walk to Maddie Bergum in the seventh were the only baserunners the L-Cats could muster.
With the win the Pumas moved to 18-1 on the season and 14-0 in the Capitol North. The win solidified the outright championship for Poynette, the school's 23rd conference softball title in the 37 years of program existence.
Poynette wraps up its regular season with three games next week as they travel to Lodi on Monday, Waterloo on Tuesday and host Wisconsin Dells on Thursday.
