Knocks off defending champion New London 2-0

Mosinee made the most of the school’s first-ever trip to the state tournament and Goodman Diamond by tipping defending champion New London it the title game, 2-0.

Mosinee pitcher Rochelle Koshalek surrendered just three hits, fanned eight and walked none in getting the victory. Losing pitcher Shelby Sommer allowed just four hits, fanned only one and walked just one.

Mosinee plated one run in the fourth and another in the sixth and Koshalek made them hold up. New London’s Leah Porath had two hits in three trips for New London while Autumn Mosinee’s Autumn Michlig had a double and a triple. Shortstop Katie Zimick had two rbi for Mosinee.

In the bottom of the fourth Mosinee's first sacker, Autumn Michlig doubled to lead off the inning. When Mikayla Garski grounded out to third, Michlig scampered into third with one out. That's when Zimick laced a single to center and broke up a scoreless duel between Kolshalek and Sommer. Mosinee tried to get another one by giving up an out on a sacrifice bunt by Sierra Holewinski. Things looked like they just might pan out for Mosinee when Sydney Gamble reached first on an infield error. With Zimick at third and Gamble at two, Natalia Swatloski flew out to centerfield.

In the bottom of the sxith Michlig did more damage with her triple to right-center. Graski grounded out to third before Zimick hit a sacrifice fly to center. That would be all the runs Koshalek would need as the junior righthander put New London down in the seventh but not without a fight from New London. After a pop out and foul fly ball to left, New London was looking at losing the game on the next out. Rightfielder Morgan Gorges, however singled to right and when Leah Porath followed suit with a single up the middle the Indians had the tying run aboard. Koshalek coaxed a foul pop up to the third base side that quickly sealed the deal for Mosinee.
