Fastpitch Bulletin #21 5/19/14

Our roof does have a hole in it!

At least over the state of Wisconsin!

More rain today either cancelled games that won't be rescheduled or they forced yet another postponement.

For me, today involved a good practice followed by a trip to Deerfield to see the Demons play against Marshall. After two innings and lightning the game was halted. Instead of heading back home we took a side trip to Waterloo Fireman's Park where Oakfield was supposed to be playing the host Pirates. We pulled into the park and the scoreboard showed that they were in the fifth inning and a light rain was falling. We settled in behind home plate and got to enjoy some interesting tidbits there. The Oaks were ahead 11-5 when we left at the top of the seventh inning and heavier rain falling.

This evening I had a great chat with a great fastpitch friend up north. They were rained out today and he had an interesting story to tell me that he has been involved with.

Through the course of chat tonight he mentioned the Bulletin from the other night where I wrote about the low number of games that were allowed when girls first played fastpitch as a high school sport sponsored by the WIAA. We chuckled at the crazyness of some of the rules that softball had to follow back then. Things like required breast cups on catcher's chest protectors, no more than 12 games played in a regular season; then 14 games but no  more than 12 could be played on a day followed by a school day etc. ; no released time from class was allowed (yet golf teams, track teams and baseball teams left school early for their events quite regularly and of course that still happens). We also chatted about Title IX issues that quite honestly don't get attention at many places.

Have a great day!

Keep it Rising!

Bob
