Ashwaubenon takes two from Shawano, SPASH nips Rice Lake, Poynette takes Heights down

Ashwaubenon takes two from Shawano, 7-3 and 11-3


At Ashwaubenon, the Jaguars’ Madison Manders struck out eight to earn the pitching victory in the non-conference opener, then slammed a two-run homer to break open the second game. Brianna Laabs hit a home run for Shawano, now 1-3 overall; Laabs, LaRissa O’Kimosh and Briana Boda had two hits apiece for the Hawks.

SPASH nips Rice Lake 11-8

SPASH and Rice Lake hooked up in a recently scheduled game so both teams could get a game in. The game was in Stevens Point where the Panthers recorded an 11-8 win in a game that saw Rice Lake pitching issue 13 base on balls. "It's pretty tough to beat anybody with that many free passes so against SPASH it's surely a formula for disaster," said Rice Lake coach Gary Haus. "We're better than we played today. We just need to get outside now that we can and get better. We need to polish up things."

Poynette beats Wisconsin Heights 13-1

The Pumas used a 14-hit attack including four doubles, a triple and three automatic home runs to beat a young, inexperienced Wisconsin Heights club at Black Earth. Poynette pitcher Jordan Blochwitz fanned 10 walked one and allowed three hits along with an unearned run.

On offense the Pumas were led by senior McKenna Kelsey. A first-team all state selection as a sophomore who missed her junioor season to a devastating knee injury during the basketball season, Kelsey has returned for her senior year. Today she hit two balls over the fence at the Vanguard's field. Her first one was following a two-run homer by senior Brittany Falk. It was Falk's second round tripper and she ended the day with four rbi and a 2x3 day. Shelby Wheeler went 2x2 with a double, Jordan Mackey was 2x3 while Emily Cibulka doubled and tripled. Doherty led the Vanguards at the plate with a pair of doubles off Blochwitz. Poynette is now 8-0 on the season. Link to scoring summary.

Elk Mound squashed Elmwood/Plum City, 11-4

Elk Mound dropped Dunn/St. Croix Conference rival Elmwood/Plum City today. Elmwood/Plum City entered the game ranked high in the FPC Division 4 rankiings. Elk Mound is also in the mix of the FPC Division 3 rankings. The final score was 11-4

McFarland 3, River Valley 2

In a battle of Division 2 heavyweights, McFarland nipped River Valley today in McFarland. a two-run fouth boosted the Spartans into the lead at 2-1 after the Blackhawks had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth. Each team plated one run in the sixth as three McFarland pitchers limited RV to six hits. Here is a look at the line score and the McFarland box score.
