Beats County rival Wilmot in title game

The Westosha Central softball team went 3-0 to win the Western Kenosha County Invite hosted by Wilmot and the Falcons.

The Falcons defeated Zion Benton 9-4 to open the day, then won a hard fought pitcher's duel over Racine Case 2-0 and completed the sweep with a 12-2 win over Wilmot.

In the first game the Falcons used 5 ZeeBee errors to take a significant lead in the game.  Larkin Langston, Hailey Jester and Haley Spoerl led the offense with 2 hits each.  Olivia Klean earned the victory giving up three runs on four hits.  "That was a much closer game than the score indicated," said Co-Head Coach Tom Lampe.  "They have some girls that can hit.  They just made a few too many errors in the field and we took advantage of that."

In the second game there wasere only six hits total (3 by each team) but
the big blow came in the bottom of the sixth.  Taylor Bergles lined a one-out
single and Kayla Konwent hit a towering shot to left field or a two-run homer.  That was all Alyssa Hrncar needed to earn her third shut out of  the year.

"Alyssa was spot on and stayed so cool in the circle," added Lampe.  "What can I say about Kayla?  She has been a treat to watch since she arrived at Central. That was a great game to watch.  It's a shame someone has to lose.  We needed a game like this to put our younger players in some pressure situations.  We were very happy with their response."

In the championship game the Falcons used 19 hits to get a comfortable lead against their county rival.  "I'm always nervous when we play them," said the coach. "They are a good team.  We just had some breaks go our way."

Kayla Konwent and Liz Fonk led the offense with three RBIs each while  Taylor Bergles, Hailey Jester and  Alyssa Hrncar had three hits (including 2 doubles).  "We are hitting the ball real well right now.  Like I said earlier this week, I just hope it continues."

Olivia Klean earned her second victory of the day, this time going the distance.  "She was very economical with her pitches," quipped Lampe.  "We had Alyssa ready to go but Liv told me she wanted to finish it herself and we saw no reason not to let her try to. I think the big lead helped but she did a great job of hitting her locations and keeping them off balance.  That's hard to do against Wilmot."

With the wins Central improved to 7-2 on the season. They return to action on Tuesday when they travel to  Delavan-Darien for a double
header.
