Stormy Weather!

I was just about to head for Chippewa Falls this afternoon to take in the Shell Lake vs Pepin/Alma Sectional Final when the phone rang and Matt from Pepin told me the game had been postponed. Now I see that it wil be played tomorrow at 2 PM in Chippewa Falls.

Elsewhere around the state the majority of the Sectional Finals were played but some are rescheduled for Friday and Saturday.

Appleton East advanced with a 5-3 win over Green Bay Preble and will await the outcome of a Saturday game between Watertown and Menomoniee Falls. A Watertown win would set up a rematch of the two schools that played the state record 26-inning game a year ago. Oshkosh West won in a 10-inning 8-6 thriller vs Kimberly that ended with a two-run walk-off home by Callie Troutfetter. Kenosha Bradford took Racine Case down 5-0. Those two winners now play each other to get to the Division 1 Final Four.

Sun Prairie handed it to Verona in Waunakee today 12-1 and will now take on Westosha Central, a 10-0 winner over Waterford. Germantown won yet another one-run squeaker as they nipped Brookfield Central 1-0. They will now await the outcome of the postponed game between SPASH and Chippewa Falls.

In Division 2 the Final Four includes New London, a 3-1 winner over Luxemburg-Casco. They will take on Monroe, a 4-1 winner in five innings over McFarland. Baldwin-Woodville shutout Rice Lake 3-0 to advance to the Final Four in three consecutive years while New Berlin West nipped Waupun 5-4.

In Division 3 the final between reigning state champion Pacelli and Shiocton got rained out and will be played on Saturday in Marathon. Mineral Point showed some mettle with a 5-3 win over Brodhead on Brodhead's field while Grantsburg beat Elk Mound 8-0 and will face Kenosha St. Joseph in the Final Four semi-final next week.

In Division 4, the Pepin/Alma vs Shell Lake game got postponed as did the Belmont vs New Lisbon game. Algoma beat Racine Lutheran 1-0 in Oakfield so that's the only Division 4 score there is tonight.

I've updated the Coaches Honor Roll with the information on state tournament appearances as well as Final Four appearances for the Division 2, 3 and 4 coaches. The Final Four in Division 1 won't be determined until Thursday's quarter final games at Goodman Diamond.

Perhaps, just perhaps I'll see you at a ball yard or two in the next couple of days.

Until then---
Keep it Rising!
Bob
