Fastpitch Bulletin

The Sectional Finalists are set. They'll take on each other tomorrow (Thursday) if the weather permits.

One state champion fell by the wayside this afternoon when Algoma knocked off Division 4 state champion Oakfield in Algoma. The Wolves, of course were a Division 3 Sectional Champion last year but dropped back down to Division 4 this season. Pepin/Alma, comeback kids in their last two tourney games takes on Shell Lake in Chippewa Falls. The other Sectional Final sees Newman Catholic out of Wausau playing Assumption iout of Wisconsin Rapids in Abbotsford. Belmont and New Lisbon play each other in Potosi.

In Division 2 the reigning state champion club from Baldwin-Woodville will again take on Rice Lake for the Sectional Championship. That game is in at St. Croix Central. Luxemburg-Casco took down Shawano today 13-2 and advanced to a Sectional Final against New London who was a 2-0 winner over Adams-Friendship. That games will be played in Shawano. Monroe takes on McFarland in the other D-2 sectional final. A Cheesemaker win would send the Cheese to the state tournament for the third consecutive year. A McFarland win would be the second-ever state tourney berth for the Spartans. That game is in Evansville.

Pacelli is still alive in Division 3 and a win over Shiocton in Marathon will send them to the state tourney for the third consecutive year with a chance to repeat. Their two-year state title game opponent though is out with Brodhead's 4-3 win over Poynette. That Sectional Final pits upstart Mineral Point against Brodhead and that game is in Brodhead. Grantsburg tipped Chequamegon 6-3 and will take on Elk Mound in that sectional final. That will be a good game and is in Fall Creek. Meanwhile it's Kenosha St. Joseph and Laconia in Chilton to round out the state tourney field.

The Division 1 look features two of the top teams in that division over the past four or five years. The sectional pool designator moved SPASH to the Northwest sectional and that pits Chippewa Falls and SPASH at Wausau East. Meanwhile Appleton East is set to take on Green Bay Preble at Bay Port. Germantown eked out a 2-1 win over Sussex Hamilton and will now face Brookfield Central for a trip to he final 8. Oshkosh West takes on Kimberly in Oshkosh while Kenosha Bradford takes on Racine Case in Muskego. Verona nipped Baraboo today 6-5 in Verona and advanced to the sectional final against Sun Prairie in a game to be played at Waunakee. Westosha Central, the top ranked team in Division 1 plays Waterford at Lake Geneva Badger in that final. Menomonee Falls plays Watertown in Hartland at Arrowhead High School in the final sectional.

As for me - Weather permitting I'll show up somewhere to watch a game. I've chosen one that requires about a 2 1/2 hour drive each way. Perahps I'll see you there. Just look for an old softball coach wearing a Fastpitch Chronicle softball cap (tomorrow's will be black, orange and silver) and a Fastpitch Chronicle T-shirt as I will remain neutral as I always do outwardly.

Enjoy the games. Get there early, Buy a hot dog and a soda along with a bag of chips. Stand up and sing the National Anthem loudly and join in a rendition of Take Me Out to the Ball Game.

Have a great Sectional Final Day!
Keep it Rising!
Bob
