One of the top pitchers in the state this season

Madison LaFollette's junior pitcher, Nicole Newman has had an amazing season.

This week alone she has led the Lancers to a pair of Big 8 wins over Verona and Madison East.

On Tuesday afternoon the hard-throwing righthander took down Verona with a two-hitter in eight innings and fanned 20 Wildcat batters in the process. The final was 2-1.

On Wednesday afternoon Newman did it to East with another two-hitter in a 2-0 win. She fanned another 20 batters and drove in both runs with a two-run homer, her fourth of the season.

In 117 innings of work this season Newman has struck out 259 batters. That's an average of 2.21 strikeouts per inning and an average of 15.5 strikeouts per 7 inning game.

Today the Lancers take on Sun Prairie in a home game at Olbrich Park. That is a key game for both teams and would be a great one to watch.
