Wausau West 14, Pacelli 7

Poynette 8, Pacelli 7
In a game shortened to six innings due to the time limit, the Pumas recorded a come-from-behind victory over the Cardinals. The game pitted the two schools that have met the past two years in the WIAA Division 3 Championship games. This time Pacelli jumped out in front with three runs in the first inning and three more in the second. Poynette's sophomore centerfielder, Jenna Sandstrom got the Pumas on the board with a towering shot over the fence in leftfield to make it 6-1. Both pitchers, Alexa Peters of Poynette and Kaylee Krostag held each other's batting orders in check until the Pumas reached the Cardinal pitcher in the bottom of the fifth. Third sacker Jordyn Mackey drew a base on balls and Pumas' shorstop Shelby Wheeler did the same. Brittany Falk hit a liner to center for the first out and Megan Boor, senior first sacker dropped a blooper of a bunt in front of Krostag. That play was mishandled by the Cardinals and left the bricks full of pumas. Junior rightfielder, Samantha Lenius delivered a single to right that scored two and when sophomore catcher Emily Cibulka lined a ball to left two more scored. She wound up a third and with one out Jenna Sandstrom hit a ball toward short that allowed her to score the tying run.

The Cardinals got a run in the top of the sixth when Anna Leshier single and moved to second on a wild pitch. After a pop out to third, Payton Hintz hit a ball to third that was thrown away allowin Leshire to score the go-ahead run. The 100 minute time-limit ran out in the top of the inning so the Pumas were left with a do-or-get-beat scenario. Mackey grounded out to short. Wheeler and Falk both drew a base on balls and so did Lenius. The Cardinals made a pitching change and when Kelsey Saager drew yet another base on balls, the bases were full of North America's largest felines. Lenius lined a one-hop shot to center that only allowed Wheeler to score. Cibulka then got the game winner on a single up the middle, scoring Falk.

"We struggled mightily all season in the field which is uncustomary for us," said Pumas Head Coach Bob Tomlinson. "Our inability to record outs on routine plays has stymied us in games we've won and games we've lost. It was good to see us battle back because we were wondering if this group could muster that kind of stick-to-it-ev-ness. Maybe there really is a movement in the force."

Lenius went 2x4 while Cibulka was 2x3.

The girls played well and we finished the conference season with 2 strong complete wins. In the first game we hit the ball early and often to put up 7 unearned in the bottom of the first. From there we just kept the pressure on. Lake Mills did a nice job of battling to start the second game and then put together a nice rally in the middle of game 2. We hit the ball well in the 3rd inning to open up a nice lead. Elise Matthies did a great job of throwing strikes in the first game. She had a little hitch to start the game, but then settled in to get the win. She also did a great job in Relief of Hollie Doyle who got the win in the second game. Brittany Magsamen (2 HR’s and 6 RBi on the day), Winter Petry (5 hits and 3 RBI) and Whitney Kulow (6 hits and 5 RBI) lead us at the plate. We still have a busy stretch coming up with 3 games in 2 days to start the week and playoffs beginning on Thursday, but the girls are playing some solid softball. (Lakeside Head Coach Matt Doering)

Game Notes: The Broncos got the sticks going early in this game as they loaded the bases in both the first and second innings. North was able to escape the 1st allowing only one run but couldn't hold off the Broncos in the 2nd inning. The Broncos also got a strong defensive performance despite the strong winds wet conditions.

Game Notes: It took the Broncos a little bit to get the timing down but once they did they were able to string together a number of hits and play some small ball to plate 5 runs in the 4th. With the strong performance turned in by Trudeau in the circle that would be all they'd need on the day to get the W.
