So much for the sun! It's an overcast day here in Columbia County. It is 60+ degrees though.

I'll be working today to get the word to all the coaches who have teams playing in this year's Jamboree and to all the athletic directors as well.

Teams playing games on the varsity softball field at the high school should note that there may be a little dirt to contend with inside our sunken dugouts. The spring weather has really affected our ability to get that remodeling project completed. It's been either too wet or too cold or a combination of both to get there and lay the concrete block that is needed to finish the deal. The dugouts won't affect the actual game play though.

Wautoma is hosting its First-Ever 17-Under girls' fastpitch tournament in July. They have chosen to run it as a 17-U event so as to eliminate soon-to-be collegiate sophomores from playing against high school aged girls. For information on the event just click here.

The second set of rankings is posted on the rankings page. It's still a tough job as there are still many good teams that have not played or have not played more than a game or two. Sun Prairie in Division 1 picked up seven first place votes from the 10-Division 1 rankers. Baldwin-Woodville remains the top team in Division 2 while Luther moved up to #1 after a 4-0, 8-inning loss that Waterloo suffered last week from Marshall. In Division 4 the top ranked team, although beaten in the second side of twinbill by McDonell Central is the top ranked team. Thorp plays Belmont on Saturday at the Poynette Fastpitch Jamboree.
