Fastpitch Bulletin

It's been 40 years but I well remember April 9th and 10th of 1973. It snowed and snowed and the wind blew and blew in this part of Wisconsin. Before the entire rampage was over we had 13 inches of wind-blown snow all over the place. Of course, in 1973 there were no high school girls playing softball or high school girls sports of any kind so softball games were not postponed or cancelled.

Last night, here in Columbia County and elsewhere in the Badger State the Thunder Beings spoke loudly. They caused light to flash across the sky and pellets of ice to fall from the sky. When daylight arrived there was a cover of ice, sleet, hail and a bit of snow all over the place. It's still there this afternoon although the temperature at 2:00 PM is 36 degrees Fahrenheit. The forecast is for more of the same throughout the day yet today, through the night and into tomorrow. Things are very bleak and not looking like softball weather at all.

I fear that in haste some people will make decisions that do not take into the consideration the people who matter most. In my humble opinion, those important people are the seniors on every team in the state. Decisions ought to be based on what's best for them rather than what's best for the adults in charge of restructuring the season. Yes, I know there are circumstances that will need to be taken into consideration etc. but the people making the decisions really need to be putting themselves into the positon of the Class of 2013 and thinking about the best way to salvage a ransacked season and make it as positive as possible. What's best for the administrators may not be the best for the seniors on this year's teams in the state.

Speaking of seniors - coaches must decide by Friday whether to advance the names of their senior players in nominating them for special days in June. It must be done online and be completed by 11:59 PM Friday. In order to further their cause, seniors must be submitted to the hosts by then and a player's head coach must be an active participant (dues paid) within the body that runs the event. Go to their website to nominate the seniors and pay the fee.

It's the craziest softball spring since the WIAA started sponsoring high school girls fastpitch softball. We've never had anything like this. Rolling with the punches is getting to the point where just about everybody is getting "punched out!"

Here is to keeping things going!
Keep it Rising!
