There is no new grass growing on the field!
There is new grass seed on the field here in Poynette along with some fertilizer and we rolled it twice today to do battle with the invasive clumps of some sort of grass-like weed that grew during last summer's drought.
The crazy situation that occurred yesterday and resulted in the "You Make the Call" play in last night's bulletin does not have an official answer as of tonight. I promised the correct ruling in tonight's bulletin but we'll have to wait as it's going to the WIAA and probably the national federation. Stay tuned.
There have been collegiate games being played on the UW-Platteville football field where artificial turf is the case. It appears that the college coaches must not read these bulletins or they would have been playing games on actual softball fields in Columbia County last week as there were fields playable. They played on the UW-:Platteville football field again this weekend. They could have played on Columbia County fields Friday, Saturday and Sunday here.
I've had three northern Wisconsin teams contact me tonight about using the facility here in Poynette during the next two weeks. One of those three is as far north as you can get in the state without crossing into Minnesota either on the Blatnik Bridge of the Bong Bridge. If there are other northern Wisconsin teams that want to travel here and play, our fields are available when we are not on them. In this community we have three softball sized fields that do not have any water, any soft spots and actually have had dry diamond material on the top layers. If you are interested just contact me. It's what I do -- just try to offer as many people a chance to play this game as often as possible.
We're not going to rank teams in numerical order this week either. Look for them next week if this week produces enough games to get a feel for what people really have going.
I'll start hammering out a Poynette Jamboree schedule soon. That is really sneaking up on me quickly.
