Fastpitch Bulletin

It's a hump back liner to short rightfield!

Hello Fastpitch Folks,

This Bulletin starts out as a special one for the coaches in the state who are thinking about posting their team stats on wissports.net if they ever get a game played. Some of the coaches who have had games have experienced some issues in posting scores and statistics. Here is an explanation from Norbert Durst of the Wisconsin Sports Network.

Here are the instructions for editing on the new site.

Posting Scores and Stats to the Wissports site

Coaches with user accounts on wissports.net now control their team's information by going to your team page on WisSports (and make sure you are logged in with your account of course). Once there you should see a yellow and grey "light switch" on the right-hand side of your browser window. If you click this switch the page will go into "edit mode". Once in edit mode you can add/edit your roster, edit your schedule, submit game stats and more. To edit the schedule go to the schedule tab along the top, to edit the roster go to the roster tab and so on.

Entering stats is done most efficiently through the Mass Score system. While logged in and in Edit Mode, go to your Game Schedule. You will see a yellow bar with Mass Score; click on the Mass Score button. A new tab will load in your browser window, which may take a few seconds to load fully. Once it loads you will see your schedule, with an Edit Stats button next to each game. Clicking on that will allow you to select your team and add player stats pretty quickly. You can also go to your regular team schedule and click on either "Scheduled" or "Final" next to the listing. On the next screen you can Edit Game Details (location, etc.) and there is also a big button for Edit Stats.

Please note, it is very important you enter the inning scores for both teams. If you do not, the system reads the blanks as 0's and changes the game scores to 0's.

The wissports.net site has been publishing 2013 Conference Previews throughout the last six weeks or so. Those previews have been done and are continuing to be done by Norbert Durst of The Wisconsin Sports Network. They are not Fastpitch Chronicle produced articles. Norbert will be doing other types of articles on softball as well. The partnership between The Wisconsin Sports Network and The Fastpitch Chronicle includes those types of articles that Norbert posts. It will require a wissports.net subscription to access them.

I'm getting closer to being ready to launch www.fastpitchchronicle-dot net as well. I have been transfering information from the dot com site to the dot net site the past few days. Once we launch dot net the site will look like the wissports.net site but will be a separate entity.

Some coaches are submitting game summaries to me. That's exactly what I am looking for. If you think your program and its players deserve summaries that contain more than a line score, box score or list of leading hitters, winning pitcher and losing pitcher then take a chapter out of the coaching books that those coaches who send summaries read. It doesn't take very long to type up a one, two or three paragraph written game summary. If one of your players has a great game, hits a grand slam, hits for the cycle etc. people won't know that by looking at the scores page or the stats page. They will only know it if you or somebody from your program publicizes it. It's your program and it's always been the coaches job to promote it. That isn't going to change. Of all the games played in the state, how many actually get more than a line score or just a line under "Other Scores" in your area daily papers. In the Madison area the schools are lucky if more than one softball game per week actually has a reporter at it that publishes an article in that area's daily rag.

If you e-mail me a game summary, it will get posted on that page of this website and on the dot net site when I move to it. That is my promise. However I'm not going to spend time lookiing for all that information on all the teams in the state.

More later tonight!
Poynette High School was evacuated today due to a chemical spill and the administration would not allow the softball game to be played outdoors so I'm home early and at the keyboard right now (5:00 PM).

Now it's later! It's 7:40 PM!

I've added Ali Murray to the Wisconsin State Softball Records page today. Ali has generated 32 career doubles through her first three plus seasons with about 20-25 games to play.

I have also been looking at some Coaches Honor Roll stuff. Not if, but when Grantsburg gets the snow off their facility (they got 12 inches yesterday and last night - they actually measured it at home plate before bringing on the end loaders and dumping it over the sidleline fences) and wins three more games, their coach Don Bjelland will reach the 300-win mark. We'll be keeping track.

There is a mini-invite in Portage tomorrow (Saturday). Remnants of the Ashwaubenon Invite that is weathered out has been moved to the fields at Portage High School. Stevens Point and Chippewa Falls along with

Thorp, Stratford and Whitnall will play a round robin in Poynette beginning at 1:00 PM on Saturday. I understand there is also a round robin at Turner.

Have a great weekend!
Keep it Rising!
