Fastpitch Bulletin

Those April Showers should just be overnight and not in the daytime hours. That way diamonds can be bucketed off and bags of drying agents can do their magic.

Rice Lake is looking to play a couple of games on Saturday in the Madison area, or in any area or venue that could host them. Poynette has offered two fields and even a third one if teams are looking to get on a diamond to practice, scrimmage or play games. If interested in playing against Rice Lake or Poynette just contact the Rice Lake athletic director or the Poynette athletic director. Games would have to start at about 3:00 PM due to ACT testing date and solo ensemble activities.

The first rankings are posted. However, only the top team in each of the four divisions is posted this week along with a list of schools who are being considered for next week's go at it.

Coaches are still encourage to forward a season profile on their teams to The Fastpitch Chronicle. We'll post them right away.

I see that Jeff Hodgson sent out a statewide message to coaches today. It's an important one so check your e-mail boxes.

The WIAA tournament series begins the week of May 13th. That means there are less than six full weeks left in the regular season plus two or three days after that. The tournament begins on May 16th.

People have been asking me whether there has ever been a season like this one. This is my 35th season inside the high school aspect of this sport in this state. Never, never have we had a spring like this one. There have been cold ones, wet ones, and of course last year's hot one but this season, following last season's unprecedented warm weather has been a real issue for outdoor spring sports in Wisconsin. I'm sure it is the same everywhere but the kids here have been resilient. They've hung in there and just kept working hard at practice.

I've started updating the Fastpitch Coaches Honor Roll pages on the FPC website. It should be done in the next day or so. If you know of a coach or are a coach whose name should be added to the list, just e-mail me the information.

And speaking of Coaches Honor Roll, Horicon coach Roger Schliewe picked up his 400th varsity victory with a win in Minnesota last weekend under a dome. Roger's Marsh Ladies beat Totino Grace 6-3 for his 400th win. The Marsh Ladies had beaten St. Anthony's 3-1 in the first game in Minnesota.Congratulations to Roger.

Have a great day!
Bob
