And there's new grass on the field.

Hello Fastpitch fans! I'd say that new grass needs some water statewide -- just not on game days.

In the Flyway Conference yesterday Horicon blitzed Mayville 8-0 to claim the conference title and give Horicon Coacgh Roger Schliewe his 12th conference title.

New Berlin Eisenhower regrouped from Monday's loss to New Berlin West by knocking of Homestead 7-3 and New Berlin West got beat last night by Greendale 9-8. Meanwhile  Appleton East beat Appleton North 8-0 and claimed the Fox Valley Association title.

New London won the Bay Conference title with a 15-1 record, edging out Oconto Falls by one game.

Here is a link to an interesting play that took place in a high school fastpitch game in the Dallas, Texas area. The play and the ruling and how it took place are things that every umpire and coach ought to watch. Note that the correct procedure in calling this play is covered in the NFHS Umpire's manual and not in the rule book or case book.

The reasoning behind the procedure is: By not making any call on the play it would tip off that there was no tag and that the plate was not touched by the runner. It's an appeal play!

Tomorrow is always a bittersweet day for me. It marks the start of the WIAA tourney trail but it also means the end of the season for many teams in the state. The winners move on and the losers pack up their gear for another school year. It's been a season filled with excitement, controversy, a historical 27-inning game and more.

Take me out to the ball game! Take me out to the crowd. Buy me some peanuts and Crackerjack. I don't care if I ever get back. And I really don't care! Just take me to the ball yard. Fastpitch that is!

Have a great day!
Keep it Rising
