Manawa 7 at Iola-Scandinavia 3
Manawa beat Iola-Scandinavia, 7-3, in the conference opener for both teams. Manawa took a 4-0 lead over Iola-Scandinavia after three innings, but the Thunderbirds battled back with three runs to the the Wolves lead to 4-3 after six innings. Manawa put the game away with three runs in the seventh inning to secure a 7-3 win over the T-Birds. Manawa improved their overall record to 4-3 while the Thunderbirds dropped to 1-2.
Sophomore pitcher Olivia Zielke went the distance to earn the win for Manawa. Zielke allowed five hits, two walks while striking out six batters. Junior pitcher Rayanne Clendenning pitched all seven innings in taking the loss for Iola-Scandinavia. Clendenning allowed 11 hits, three walks and struckout two batters.
Offensively, Manawa was led by Alexis Ferg, Alayna Seeger, Olivia Zielke who each had two hits. Breanna Bonikowske and Briley Rosin each had a double and a RBI. For Iola-Scandinavia, Brooklyn Berrens had three hits and Katie Rosenthal had a two-run double in the fourth inning.
