Cochrane-Fountain City coach Steve Lyga views his 2025 team as one of the favorites in the Dairyland conference along with Pepin/Alma and Blair Taylor.
Lyga who is entering his 19th year at the helm at CFC. He has an overall record in high school varsity games of 317-116 and his CFC teams have accumulated a record of 292-91. He will be assisted in the upcoming season by Kerrigan Haas, Katie McFarlin and Jackie Noeldner.
Lyga's teams have won nine conference titles, been the regional final nine times, winning seven times and has have been the Final Four (state tournament level) two times winning once and finishing runner-up in the other trip.
Looking down the tournament trail for 2025 Lyga's thinks the top teams in their Division 5 sectional include Marshfield Columbus, Blair-Taylor, Pepin/Alma and his own CFC club.
Returning in 2025 will be all conference players injunior third sacker MacKenzie Wenger and sophomore catcher Mackenna Aspenson. Other key returnees includesenior second sacker Aubrey Smith, senior first sacker Arianna Suhr, sophomore outfielder Sienna Schmitt and sophomore shortstop/outfielder Emmalie Lacey.
CFC certainly has a rich tradition and the coach sees that as a positive heading into 2025. They will look to replace last year's pitcher, shortstop and centerfielder.
