Germantown lost the section semifinal to Menomonee Falls 9-2, finishing their season 19-7.
After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the 1st, the Warhawks tied the game in the 3rd on a 1 out triple by senior CF Maddy Balsiger (1-2, 3B, 2 BB, R) and 2-out RBI single by Julia Sina (3-4 2B, RBI), then took the lead 2-1 in the 4th on an sophomore 2B Alaina Williams (1-3, R) single, senior 1B Kenzie Thomas (1-2, BB) walk and junior RF Emmy Coulter (1-4, RBI) RBI single.
But Menomonee Falls scored 6 unearned runs in the top of the 5th to break the game open and 2 more in the top of the 7th make the final score 9-2.
Junior pitcher Kylie Otto got the start and was the tough luck loser, pitching 5 innings, allowing 7 runs (1 earned) on 8 hits and 3 walks while striking out 6. She finished the season 9-5.
The game marked the final high school game for seniors Maddy Balsiger, Kenzie Thomas, Kendal Thomas and Madison Preiss. Balsiger, a 4-year starter, played 101 games for Germantown and will head to Belmont University next year to play softball.
