Shoreland Lutheran advanced to the sectional finals Wednesday night with a 7-2 victory over Dominican Wednesday night at Carthage College. Dominican took an early 1-0 lead after a walk and double by Lily Weiler put runners at 2nd and 3rd with no outs. But after an RBI groundout Pacer pitcher Erin Borchardt got consecutive strikeouts to end the threat.
Shoreland scored 2 in the bottom of 2. After the first 2 Pacers walked, the tying run came on a sack bunt and error. The second run would score later on a wild pitch. Dominican tied the game at 2 in the top of the 3rd off 2 Pacer errors. SL took a 3-2 lead in the 3rd, aided by 2 Dominican errors. The Pacers plated 3 in the 5th off an rbi single by Grace Olson and a 2 rbi knock from Faith Triplett. In the 6th SL added some insurance. Aubrey Hart hit a 1 out double, reached 3rd on a wild pitch and was drove home on a sac fly by Borchardt.
Grace Olson led Shoreland going 2-4, 2 runs , rbi and 2 SB. Borchardt got her 13th win going 7 innings, 9 hits 1 ER, 8 K. Weiler and Pickert added 2 hits each for Dominican.
"We didn't play our best ball at times but experience kept us calm to make the plays when we needed. I'm excited for the girls to have an opportunity to play for a spot in Madison."
Shoreland Lutheran will play Laconia at Laconia High School Thursday at 5. The Pacers are now 13-5 overall.
