New London wins Winneconne Invite going 3-0

New London went 3-0, Won the rematch of last year's D2 Championship game.

New London 5 Winneconne 1

The Bulldogs wasted no time getting on the board early during Saturday’s opening game of the Winneconne Invite scoring 4 runs right away in the top frame. Ellie Winkelman drove in Eve Hedtke for the games 1st run on a double, followed by a Kenna Mix Single scoring Winkelman. Kiley Peterson drove in 2 more runs on a single. Winneconne got on the board in the 3rd when Audra Schaffer drove in Claire Schaffer. New London added a run in the Top of the 7th on a Kenna Mix Home Run. Eve Hedtke finished as the leading hitter for the Bulldogs going 3 for 4, Jensen Mix, Kenna Mix and Shelby Glodowski also had multiple hits. 5 different Winneconne batters collected all 5 hits for Winneconne. Kenna Mix Earned the win in the circle going all 7 innings allowing 5 hits, 1 run unearned, striking out 9 and walking 2. Eden Youngbauer took the loss for Winneconne allowing 12 Hits, 5 runs, striking out 5 and walking 1.

New London 8 Appleton North 1

A 3 run 4th inning added to the Bulldogs 4-0 lead in Saturday’s 2nd game against the Lightning. Jensen Mix, Ellie Winkelman, and Scarlett Rathje each had multiple hits in the game With Winkelman leading the way with 3 hits and 3 RBI’s. Rathje also drove in 2 on a 2 Run Home Run. Raegen Schwarz led Appleton North with 2 hits, Payton Willenkamp drove in the lone run for the Lightning. Kenna Mix and Ellie Winkelman shared the pitching duties for New London, Mix went the 1st 2 innings allowing 1 hit, striking out 3 and walking 1. Winkelman Allowed 6 Hits, 1 Run and 2 strikeouts in 5 innings of work. Meg Carew took the loss for North allowing 9 Hits, 8 Runs, 5 Earned, 1 strikeout and walking none.

New London 5 Freedom 4

It is not often you see a rematch of the previous State Championship game in the Regular Season. The highly anticipated matchup amongst many between 2 of the best in Division 2, Many great plays were made by both teams. Freedom hit the board 1st in the 1st inning on Marlee Smith Fielder’s choice scoring Carrington Klug. New London would get on the board to tie the game in the 2nd inning on a Scarlett Rathje Triple driving in Bristol Elsholtz. New London added 1 more in 3rd when Shelby Glodowski doubled in Sophia Hull-Riggs. Freedom would take a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the 3rd on a Marlee Smith 2 RBI single. The top of the 5th the Bulldogs would tie the game at 3 on a Kiley Peterson RBI Single with the bases loaded. New London would break the tie in the 6th Inning when Ellie Winkelman drove in Scarlett Rathje, a base-loaded walk to Shelby Glodowski would give the Bulldogs their 5th and final run of the game. Freedom showed no quit in the bottom of the 7th, Carrington Klug Scored on a Kaia McVay single and Freedom would have the tying run at 3rd and the winning run at 2nd, An intentional walk to Marlee Smith was issued which brought up Payton Vande Loo to the plate, however a 1-2-3 Double play would end the game giving the Bulldogs a 5-4 victory. Offensively for the Bulldogs Jensen Mix was 3 for 4 scoring 2 runs and Scarlett Rathje was 3 for 3 driving in 1 and scoring 1. Shelby Glodowski had 2 RBI’s. Carrington Klug had 3 Hits for the Irish and Marlee Smith had 2. Sarriah Doxtator had the lone extra Base Hit for the Irish with a Triple. Kenna Mix earned the win going all 7 innings, allowing 8 Hits, 4 Runs, striking out 2 and Walking 1. Kailey Stordeur took the loss for Freedom allowing 9 Hits, 5 Runs, striking out 4 and Walking 8.
